Jose Mourinho will become the new Brazil manager and has already started searching for assistant coaches, according to one of his former players.
The managerial role with the Selecao became available last month after Tite's decision to walk away from the national team following their quarter-final World Cup exit.
It leaves a vacant role at the helm of one of the greatest footballing nations and it's believed that the Roma boss is seen as someone who could take charge - which Alberto confirmed.
Speaking on the Mundo GV podcast, Alberto said: 'Let me say it directly. Perhaps Mourinho will be Brazil's new coach. This is a news I'm publicly reporting.
'He's also asked me to work as his assistant,' Carlos also declared.
The retired player - who spent much of his playing career in Brazil - spent two seasons working with Mourinho at Porto and the duo formed a close relationship.
There has been much speculation over the former Chelsea manager's future, with Mourinho also linked with the Portugal job following the sacking of Fernando Santos - though it's now expected that Roberto Martinez will take charge.
The latest reports in Italy indicate that Roma do not want Mourinho to leave the club - and the manager is under contract until 2024.
It was only last month that reports emerged of Brazil's interest in the former Chelsea and Man United boss - after Carlo Ancelotti rejected their approach.
Roma hold Mourinho's attention for now but he hopes the club will not stand in the way of his desire to manage the national side by June 2023.
The club's director, Tiago Pinto, recently reiterated their desire to keep Mourinho at the helm of the club despite international interest.
He's spent a year-and-a-half with the Serie A outfit and has helped lead them up to 6th place in the Italian top-flight this season.
