Jurgen Klopp: “My celebration was unnecessary”

Liverpool won with a dramatic late winner at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp lost his cool when forward Diogo Jota scored a 94th-minute winner for Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Tottenham forward Richarlison had completed a three-goal comeback for Spurs before the Portuguese hit the back of the net to send both the home crowd and Klopp wild.

The German coach celebrated the winning goal in the face of the fourth official, pulling his hamstring in the process, and was subsequently yellow-carded for allowing his emotions to get the better of him.

Klopp discusses his celebration

In the aftermath of the 4-3 win over Ryan Mason’s Spurs, Klopp spoke to Sky Sports about the incident.

“How they can give a foul on Mohamed Salah [before Spurs’ third goal]. We have our history with [Paul] Tierney, I really don’t know what he has against us, he has said there is no problems but that cannot be true. How he looks at me, I don’t understand it.

“In England, nobody has to clarify these situations, it’s really tricky and hard to understand. My celebration was unnecessary, which is fair but what he said to me when he gave me the yellow card is not ok.”
