Premier League stars have lifted the lid on the day of relaxation ahead of the Boxing Day fixtures - as they shared their Christmas Day photos with their families.

The likes of Jamie Vardy, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Mason Mount and Jesse Lingard all took to Instagram on Saturday to share images of their loved ones with their families.

But Cristiano Ronaldo was feeling the heat on Christmas Day, as the Manchester United icon was seen in the sauna as the Red Devils face a trip to Newcastle on the day after Boxing Day.

A lot of the players stepped into fancy dress on Christmas Day with their families, with Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne stealing the show by wearing a Grinch mask on Saturday.

The Belgian was seen training on Saturday morning ahead of City's clash with Leicester on Sunday but was then seen scaring his family and children later in the day by jumping from around the corner in the costume.

Jamie Vardy was wearing a Christmas onesie on Saturday but looked to be getting an early night ahead of Leicester's trip to City on Boxing Day.

The former England striker was seen cuddling up to wife Rebekah on the afternoon Christmas Day, with Vardy's partner captioning the pic 'over and out'.

Mason Mount also dressed up as an elf to celebrate Christmas with his family, while the Chelsea midfielder also treated his loved ones with a trip to south west London's Kew Gardens over the festive period.

Manchester United defenders Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire joined team-mate Ronaldo in having a more chilled Christmas, with the centre-back pairing posting pictures of them with their respective partners.

Their United team-mate Jesse Lingard posed through his trademark 'JL' hand gesture while standing in front of a 'Christmas with the Lingards' sign in his family home.

Chelsea's Reece James expressed his desire to send 'love and positive energy' to his followers while posing in a pink jumper for a selfie, while West Ham striker Michail Antonio and his family wore matching onesies in their family Christmas snap.

On Christmas Eve, Ronaldo led the way after posting a family photo on Instagram while the Liverpool squad wore Santa hats after training.

De Bruyne also led the way for Premier League stars sharing Christmas snaps, as Ilkay Gundogan and Kai Havertz also shared photos with their loved ones ahead of the big day.

His City team-mate Gundogan posed with his wife Sara Arfaoui in front of their Christmas tree while Chelsea's £89million man Havertz sat with girlfriend Sophie Weber with presents galore.

Exiled former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang posted an image with his family alongside the caption: 'Merry Christmas #FamilyFirst'. Mikel Arteta has banished the striker from first team training after he returned late from an approved trip to France to visit his mother.

David Beckham has long hung up his boots but led the way with a photo of himself wearing a Santa hat while drinking a cup of coffee on a chilly Christmas Eve morning.

'Very Christmasy over here - coffee & wine ( I promise the wine was yesterday),' he posted. 'Happy Christmas Eve. Who's more excited me or the kiddies?'

Fellow Manchester United legend Patrice Evra also got into the spirit of things after posting a video of himself dancing in an extravagant reindeer costume.

The charismatic Frenchman is known for his wild Instagram videos and did not disappoint this year.

'If you don't believe in Santa you must tell your kid mini black Santa is the real one,' the 40-year-old posted. 'Rudolph was feeling too dizzy.

'@instagram it's time for you to block my account I'm having too much fun #ilovethisgame #merrychristmas #santa #positive4evra'.

Bruno Fernandes has also struggled to hit the heights of last season with Man United, but shared an adorable snap with his family.

Diogo Jota is on fire for Liverpool and shared a photo with his wife and young child. The Portuguese won't be in action on Boxing Day after the Reds' game against Leeds was postponed due to a Covid outbreak at the Yorkshire club.

Scotland internationals Andrew Robertson and Kieran Tierney sent an important message in front of their Christmas trees this year, with the Liverpool and Arsenal stars highlighting the 'Check yer Bawballs' campaign by charity Cahonas.

Robertson's Anfield team-mate Alisson Becker also shared a photo with his wife Natalia and their three children.

Wolves star Raul Jimenez posed with his wife Daniela and child Arya, just over one year on from his devastating head injury that ruled him out for the rest of the 2020-21 campaign.

Like Robertson, Alisson and Jota, the Mexican won't be lining up for Wolves on Boxing Day due to Watford's Covid outbreak.

Away from the Premier League, football's biggest stars from across Europe have been celebrating Christmas this year.

Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois was pictured helping his partner Mishel put the star on top of their Christmas tree, while ex-Chelsea and United boss Jose Mourinho shared a snap with his son.

Robert Lewandowski was harshly overlooked for 2021's Ballon d'Or prize, but beamed alongside his wife as the Pole toasted another superb year in front of goal, scoring 56 goals in 44 games for Bayern Munich.

Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez put to one side the LaLiga champion's turmoils on the pitch to enjoy time with his wife and three children. Diego Simeone's side have lost their last four league games.

Meanwhile, the Icardi's made the most of the season of goodwill, with Mauro and Wanda posting a family picture to Instagram after a tumultuous year for the pair.
