KSI claims Wayne Rooney wants to fight him after turning down boxing offer from Man United legend

KSI has revealed Wayne Rooney is keen to fight him in the boxing ring after receiving a shock call-out from the Manchester United and England legend.

YouTube sensation KSI is attempting to carve out a career in the sport after winning his first three professional contests, two of which came on the very same night.

After getting the better of his highly-anticipated grudge match with fellow online star Logan Paul in 2019, the 29-year-old made his return to boxing earlier this year in a successful double header at the O2 Arena.

Now he is turning his attention to a showdown with Dillon Danis, the American stablemate of UFC's Conor McGregor, at Wembley Arena on January 14.

And should KSI prevail, Rooney will be waiting in line as an unlikely potential opponent for the social-media personality.

While carrying out the press conference for his clash with Danis alone on Thursday, KSI claimed he rejected the chance to slug it out with the former footballer, who threw down the gauntlet for the pair to meet in the ring.

'I hope he doesn't get annoyed that I said this, but Wayne Rooney hit me up being like "oh, we should fight", and I said no. I just don't want to do that,' he said.

'I don't know, if Wayne Rooney is down of course I think it would be good to have him in the [influencer boxing] space.'

Rooney is an avid boxing fan and has previously detailed his own brief spell in the sport as a youngster.

Back in 2017, footage showed him being knocked out by good friend Phil Bardsley during a sparring session with the former Sunderland defender at his home.

KSI did add that Rooney is not the only ex-England player considering lacing up the gloves, however, as he continued:  'I know Wayne Bridge is another person that's been interested in the [influencer boxing] space.'
