Keir Starmer has backed Southgate's squad to come out victorious in their EURO 2024 clash with the Netherlands, joking they haven't missed a penalty during his tenure.
Whilst jetting off to a NATO summit in Washington, the new Prime Minister said he won't be able to watch the all important face-off between the two sides.
However, he is hoping officials will keep him updated on the Three Lions score via diplomatic notes at the meetings.
The Arsenal season ticket holder imparted his wisdom to seasoned manager Gareth Southgate, quipping: 'Win!'
He added: 'I understand our phones are all taken off us, when we go into the Council, so I’ve not doubt we’ll be passed lots of notes with really important information about the summit, and one or two of those notes hopefully will be an update on the score, because I’m not going to be able to get it otherwise.
‘But, look, I’ve sent a message to the team, obviously I wish them well, I want them to win, and let’s hope they can do it.’
Similarly to droves of England supporters online on Saturday, the Labour leader was quick to praise Bukayo Saka for his performance.
The game on Saturday got off to a slow start with many fans complaining of a lack of goal scoring in the first 74 minutes of the game.
However England's EURO 2024 dreams were almost dashed when Breel Embolo scored with only minutes to go on the clock.
But Bukayo Saka was quick to revive the squad's hopes of bringing it home in a stunning goal only minutes later.
Reflecting on the sensational goal, Sir Keir added: ‘That was classic Bukayo… cuts in from the right, and that shot is absolutely classic – inside of the post – I’ve seen it so many times.
‘And I’d remind you, England have not missed a penalty under a Labour government in 2024.’
With a traumatic history when it comes to penalties, football revellers were on the edge of their seats as Jordan Pickford stood ready to defend in the shoot-out defender on Saturday
But to the relief of many, the Three Lions side walked away with a perfect scoring sheet, bagging a ticket into the semi-finals against the Netherlands.
Since the phenomenal win, the squad's manager Gareth Southgate has been tipped for a knighthood and may even receive one if his side lose.
Several members from Southgate's squad, such as captain Harry Kane, may also be in line for an honour if they manage to get their hands on the trophy in Berlin.
According to the Telegraph, Southgate was close to being handed a knighthood after getting the side to their first major final since 1966 at EURO 2020.
However the squad crashed out o the competition losing to Italy at Wembley in a dreaded penalty shoot out.
