Kieran Trippier hits out at Tottenham for their player management as he revealed the club tried to offload him to various clubs prior to his move to Atletico Madrid.

The 29-year-old explains how he had asked the club chairman Daniel Levy and manager Mauricio Pochettino for reassurances about his future at White Hart Lane.

With neither confirming his position within the team, Trippier made a shock £20million switch to Atletico in the summer of 2019 after what was an underwhelming final campaign at Spurs.

Trippier told The Beautiful Game Podcast how Levy and Pochettino gave him the cold shoulder before his transfer.

Trippier explained how he broached the topic of a potential transfer to Spain by saying: 'Yeah, I did knock on his door, and I said I have an opportunity to go to Atletico Madrid.

'If I am part of your plans, then I will stay. He didn't give me a yes, and he didn't give me a no in his office.

'So as a player you think oh right ok, no problem.

'Then I went to the chairman and told him the exact same.

'I had a conversation with the manager, and I said am I part of your plans? If I am, no problem but I have a great opportunity here to go to Atletico Madrid.

'But going back to what I said before, in March/April I hear off people I trust that they've tried to offload me. Offering me to clubs.'

Despite a somewhat underwhelming final season in the Premier League, Trippier had established himself as one of England's key players following his success in during the 2018 World Cup.

Trippier's strong performances in Spain could see him returning to the Premier League as a number of clubs are said to be willing to table offers for the full back this summer.
