Klopp: Henderson has been unfairly critiqued over his return from Saudi Arabia

Jordan Henderson has been unfairly criticised over his brief spell in Saudi Arabia, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claimed yesterday.

The England midfielder, 33, was accused of turning his back on the LGBT community, for whom he had been an ally, when he quit Liverpool for the riches of Saudi Arabia, where being gay is a crime.

This week Henderson terminated his contract with Al Ettifaq and signed for Ajax.

‘It looks like he is happy and that is the most important thing to me,’ Klopp said of his former captain.

‘People are really critical of Hendo and the move, first there and now coming back. I don’t know how we dare to always judge these things.

‘We have one life and we have to make decisions. Sometimes our decisions are perfect at first and it feels different after you have made them. He thought it was better for him and his family to come back and now he is at Ajax — a sensational club in a difficult moment.’
