Klopp hails the return of Van Dijk ahead of Man Utd clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he is delighted to have Virgil van Dijk back from suspension for his side's huge Premier League showdown with Manchester United.

The Reds visit their arch-rivals at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon hoping to keep pressure on league leaders Manchester City.

Star defender Van Dijk missed Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich and Klopp says it is a relief to have him back despite keeping a clean sheet in the Champions League last-16 first leg tie.

'Very, like he always is,' Klopp responded when asked how important it was to have Van Dijk back in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

'But the most important thing is that we didn't miss him as much as a lot of people expected us to because we defend as a unit.

'Of course it is really good to have him back. It is the first time in weeks that we have to make a choice between midfielders, full-backs and even centre-backs.'

The Reds looked in good spirits as they arrived for training on Monday morning ahead of one of the biggest games of the season.

Roberto Firmino looked to have enjoyed the journey after giving  forward partner Mohamed Salah a lift to Melwood.

The likes of Jordan Henderson and Alisson Becker looked in a more serious mood as they pitched up to the club's training ground.

Liverpool sit level on points with City but have a game in hand on Pep Guardiola's men.

They will have to be at their best on Sunday against a United team that has won eight and drawn one of their nine Premier League games since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge.
