Swindon Town have been handed a home tie against Rochdale as they begin life in League One following the release of the EFL fixtures.
Swindon were crowned League Two champions last season and face a side that finished four points above the drop zone last season.
Plymouth Argyle finished as runners-up in the fourth tier last season and will begin their campaign at home to Blackpool, who finished mid-table last season.
Following their dramatic Wembley win, Northampton Town will kick off against Wimbledon, who also narrowly avoided relegation.
Meanwhile, Hull's life in the third tier begins away at Gillingham, with all the relegated sides from last season's Championship on the road on the opening day.
Lee Bowyer's Charlton will travel to Crewe Alexandra while Wigan Athletic will go to Portman Road to take on Ipswich Town.
The Latics had finished 13th in the Championship last season but a 12-point penalty for going into administration saw them return to the third tier.
Grant McCann's Hull side however then face tricky tests against the three promoted sides before travelling to Fleetwood.
The opening day also sees home ties for promotion hopefuls Portsmouth, who face Shrewsbury Town, while Sunderland are also at home to Bristol Rovers.
Late October could represent one of the first top-of-the-table clashes as Oxford - who finished fourth last season and who begin away at Lincoln - face the Addicks.
Meanwhile, Fleetwood Town, who were the other side to finish in the promotion spots last season, host Burton Albion on September 12.
MK Dons, who finished just five points above the drop zone before last season was curtailed, begin at Doncaster Rovers, while the other opening-day fixture pits Accrington Stanley against Peterborough.
All fixtures on the first day of the season are currently scheduled to take place on September 12 and kick-off at 3pm.
Clubs will play 11 rounds of midweek league fixtures, up from the five that were initially scheduled for last season.
The campaign is however set to finish just a week later than would be normally scheduled, on May 8.
The final day of the season could also prove to be yet another dramatic matchday for clubs, with Bowyer's side and McCann's outfit set to face off, while Swindon and Northampton face trips to Wigan and Sunderland.
Oxford and Portsmouth have home games against Burton Albion and Accrington to finish off their seasons, while Fleetwood are at Ipswich.
All dates and times for fixtures are subject to change in line with television rights and broadcasting.
