Lampard misses press conference as Morris hails 'fantastic decade' for academy

Frank Lampard skipped his pre-match press conference on Friday with a bug sweeping round Chelsea, but the boss hopes to be back for Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Lampard has been unwell over the last week, while the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Billy Gilmour are others who have picked up problems at their Cobham training ground.

Assistant Jody Morris stepped in on Friday in Lampard's absence, and joked: 'The older you get the harder it is to shake.

'There has been a bit flying about anyway but I think it's just that time of year and you have to put up with those sort of things.

'We'll look at how the lads are feeling. After all the games, you've got to utilise the squad. I'm sure there will be a few changes from the Brighton game but how many I'm not sure just yet.'

Morris, who was with Lampard at Derby, previously worked for Chelsea's academy and says he has taken personal pride in seeing youngsters become regulars in the first team.

'You have your individual relationship with players and having known them for six, seven years, it's great,' Morris said of the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Co.

'Now we're beyond that. They fully deserve to be in and around the squad. They've performed at levels that have justified that. It's been a fantastic decade.

It doesn't stop there, we're looking at the next ones who are coming through.'
