Chelsea news as Liverpool are next up for the Blues on Tuesday evening and are looking to strengthen their Champions League ambitions this season
Chelsea have no time to dwell on the weekend's 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa. The loss was the Blues' tenth in the Premier League and resulted in Graham Potter leaving the club.
"It's a massive challenge," he said on Monday. "I have been just four years coaching but I have been 20 years involved in football. I start really early and I have a lot of experience in the changing room.
"What I will try to do is help the players, guide the players because I have been in those situations before. Then I think I have got that feeling that I can help, especially young players that have never been in this situation before."
Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City was their ninth defeat of the season and leaves them with a mammoth challenge in bringing Champions League football to Anfield next season.
They come to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday looking to end a run of three straight away defeats. However, they face a number of injury issues ahead of their trip to the capital.
Attacker Luis Diaz has been out since December and is yet to make a return for Jurgen Klopp's side. It was expected that he would not be back until after the March international break but he did not feature against Man City.
On Monday, Klopp confirmed that the Colombian would not play against Chelsea. "No, he’s not available," the German said. "But he is in training, but he is not ready for this game. As much as we want him to be back, we still have to give him time."
Liverpool's midfield concerns will continue against the Blues. Thiago has been sidelined with a hip injury since February and despite training with his teammates, will continue to watch from the sidelines. "We had Thiago yesterday in training, in normal team training, which is good as well, but he's not available for tomorrow of course," Klopp added.
Fortunately for Liverpool, they have Darwin Nunez available after he was introduced midway through the second half at the Etihad Stadium. The Uruguayan missed the international break with a cut on his foot and could make a return to the starting XI on Tuesday.
Naby Keita faces the possibility of not playing again this season after returning from international duty with Guinea with a muscle injury. Youngsters Stefan Bajcetic and Calvin Ramsey, though, are out for the remainder of the season.
