Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is preparing to make a £20million transfer swoop for Stuttgart striker Nicolas Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is one of the most sought after youngster’s, following an impressive season at Stuttgart - scoring 14 goals in 27 appearances to help them secure an immediate return to the Bundesliga for next season.

Bielsa hopes the 22-year-old bolster his forward line as Leeds gear up for life in the Premier League next season, according to The Mirror.

Despite scoring 77 goals on their way to the Championship title, Bielsa has made a striker his top transfer priority this summer.

Patrick Bamford has been their primary source of goals for Leeds in the 2019-2020 season, but Bielsa believes Gonzalez possesses the qualities to take his team to the next level.

The newly-promoted Whites are said to be competing with a host of European clubs for the youngster’s signature.

Italian giants AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, Lazio and Napoli, are said to be interested in the Argentine.

While Borussia Dortmund are looking to fill the hole that will be left if Jadon Sancho moves to Manchester United ahead of next season.

Despite being contracted to Stuttgart for the next three years; Gonzalez will likely leave the Mercedes-Benz Arena this summer after joining the Argentinos Jrs in 2018 for £7.65m.

Leeds are said to be in pole position to sign the youngster, but should a deal fail to materialise they will look to sign Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins from Brentford instead.

The Express suggest a bid of £50m will prise them from the hands of Thomas Frank, who failed to achieve promotion with the Championship side this term.
