Leeds United have made an enquiry for Middlesbrough forward Patrick Bamford after a bid for Derby's Matej Vydra stalled.
New manager Marcelo Bielsa is keen to add reinforcements to his attacking line and is wants a player already proven at Championship level.
Vydra was his No 1 target after finishing as the division's top scorer last season with 21 goals.
Leeds had looked set to agree a deal worth in the region of £11million, but talks have no hit an impasse and Leeds are moving onto alternative options.
Bamford, who cost Middlesbrough £6m to sign from Chelsea 18 months ago, scored 11 Championship goals last season but has a career-high of 17 goals in a single campaign.
Middlesbrough would be reluctant to part with the 24-year-old after investing so much time in him over several loan spells and now as a permanent member of the squad, but they would be hard pushed to turn down a double-your-money offer.
Elsewhere, Leeds had a £1.2m offer turned down for Poland international midfielder Taras Romanchuk, 26, from Jagiellonia Białystok.
