Leeds United and Pizza Hut engaged in a bizarre social media spat on Thursday regarding the recent spygate scandal which has engulfed football.

It comes in light of an extraordinary turn of events which saw Leeds boss Marcelo Biesla this week reveal that he has instructed members of his staff to spy on training sessions of every team his side have played so far this season.

The popular fast food chain sought to lighten the mood around the saga by posting a tongue-in-cheek message on Twitter, which read: 'Hi Leeds, We’ve just seen a suspicious looking man peering through our chef’s window. Can you let us know if you’re planning to put Pizza on the menu in the club canteen?'

The Championship club responded in kind, writing: 'Prefer Domino's thanks! They don't take a week to deliver a tweet.'

Pizza Hut had the final say on the matter with a salty put-down alluding to their failure to win a single trophy in 27 years.

'Bit rich coming from a club that hasn't delivered since 1992...,' they wrote before attempting to bury the hatchet by insisting even Leeds fans can enjoy some of their offerings.

The spygate row first erupted after a Leeds member of staff - which Biesla insisted was sent by him - was caught by local police snooping at Derby's training ground last week ahead of their Friday night clash, in which Frank Lampard's side were beaten 2-0.

Biesla, 63, has come under heavy criticism for his significant role in the scandal after holding a press briefing this week detailing his meticulous  scouting methods.

Derby and the EFL have opened a formal investigation into the spying with The Football Association also this week beginning their own probe into the situation.
