Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is in line for a new contract at Leicester after establishing himself as a mainstay of Brendan Rodgers’ team this season.

The homegrown midfielder did not make his first Premier League start until December 5 but has shown outstanding form since and is now one of the first names on Leicester’s team sheet, with Rodgers touting him as a future captain.

Dewsbury-Hall’s last contract was signed in 2020, shortly before he moved to Luton on loan, and expires in summer 2024.

At that stage, Dewsbury-Hall had made only two first-team appearances for the Foxes, so the new terms would reflect his improved status in the squad.

Leicester are expected to sell at least one of their first-team players this summer, with Youri Tielemans likely to depart given he has only 12 months remaining on his deal, while there is also interest in his fellow midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

But Leicester have also moved to tie down some of their best young players, with James Justin and Wesley Fofana signing new contracts this year, and Dewsbury-Hall is expected to follow.

The 23-year-old is a relatively late developer but is now one of three academy products who are first-team regulars, along with Luke Thomas and Harvey Barnes.

‘I think he’s a captain at some time in the future here,’ said Rodgers. ‘He leads, he inspires, he’ll say what he thinks. He’s also very respectful and very humble. He’s a great ambassador for the club and the academy.’

Meanwhile, Leicester may wait until the end of the season to replace departed recruitment chief Lee Congerton, who has joined Italian club Atalanta. The club have a number of candidates in mind, including those already working at other clubs.
