Championship side Leicester City are hoping to secure Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei from Chelsea, according to reports.

The Italian U21 player came to Chelsea for an impressive £17million from Inter Milan in 2022 and spent last season on loan with Reading.

Casadei recently won the Golden Boot at the Under-20 World Cup 2023, after scoring seven goals at the tournament, and has drawn interest from a number of teams.

According to The Telegraph, the Italian midfielder is a 'sought-after player in the Championship' - with the Foxes taking a particular interest in the player.

Following the departure of James Maddison to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £45m, Leicester boss Enzo Maresca is hoping young talent like Casadei will help boost the clubs chances of promotion at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

A chance to play in the second-tier will offer Casadei more opportunity for senior football, before returning to Chelsea.

The youngster spent last season on loan in the Championship with Reading, where he made 15 appearances in all competitions and scored one goal.

After being relegated at the end of the 2022-23 season, Leicester are hoping to recoup upwards of £80million for James Maddison and Harvey Barnes.

Newcastle, Aston Villa, and West Ham are amongst the clubs to show interest in Barnes, the 25-year-old winger.

In addition to Maddison's departure, Leicester have also lost Youri Tielemans to Aston Villa, leaving a gap in their midfield ahead of their Championship season.

The 20-year-old midfielder has trained under Roberto Mancini at international level and made 15 appearances for Reading in League One last season. Now with the option to

Having been described as a player with 'huge potential', the Foxes are keen to secure a loan deal for the Italian in order to boost their chances of returning to Premier League football.

Following Brendan Rodgers' departure from the club in April 2023, Italian manager Enzo Maresca brings a wealth of experience in Serie A, La Liga, and the Premier League.

Maresca previously worked under Pep Guardiola at treble-winners Manchester City as an assistant manager, before making the move to a struggling Leicester.

The Italian's rebuild has featured England's Conor Coady and Tottenham's Harry Winks, although is hopeful that securing fellow Italian Casadei on loan will propel the foxes back into the Premier League.
