Leicester's Hamza Choudhury has a good set of lungs and loves a tough tackle

Our scout is a top football expert who attends matches each week searching for the next star. He brings you his verdict in Sportsmail.

This week he has been looking at Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury.

WHAT HAS HE GOT?

This local lad is steadily progressing his career, competing for a spot in Leicester City’s senior side — and in recent weeks he has cemented a place.

He failed to impress on loan at Burton Albion but his determination shone through and it was a good apprenticeship out of academy football.

He is a tough-tackler who enjoys the hard work required in central midfield.

Choudhury is easily identifiable with his shock of dark hair and he has great energy, covers the ground and is an ally to the more skilful type of player.

Right-footed, he has a strong build, good lungs and plays very responsibly.

I saw him in an academy game earlier this season sitting on the right of midfield where he was clearly alive to the forward runs by his team-mates.

As a consequence, he knew when to fill in and be wary of the oppposition’s counter attacks. He also knows the value of occasionally standing still to protect his players at the back.

I like the way he took a heavy knock while play continued. He staggered up, refused to stay down and only later accepted treatment.

He rarely left his defensive areas and continually harassed opponents, forcing them into hurried passes. He challenges for the ball in the air and is a vital foil for the more creative players.

WHAT DOES HE NEED?

At times in this early season game I thought he followed the ball rather than stay with his opponent. He must be wary of this. It is not easy to maintain this discipline and keep shirt-tight thoughout.

I also feel there is room for more ambition in his play but he and his manager accept and value his strengths. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain his place and form and justify his promotion to the first-team squad by Claude Puel.
