Darwin Nunez has had his critics since arriving in England and the Liverpool striker was the target once more... but this time from the most unlikeliest of sources.

Nunez became the Reds' record transfer signing this summer when they paid Benfica £85million for his services.

The 23-year-old has scored four goals in 11 appearances for the Anfield so far, but he has also endured a three-match suspension too following a straight red-card for headbutting Crystal Palace centre back Joachim Andersen in August.

The Uruguayan international was among the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or, which was won by Karim Benzema on Monday night, after largely scoring 32 goals in 41 appearances for Benfica and his country last season.

Nunez ended up finishing joint 25th in the standings after receiving one vote - but according to Specsavers that sole voter needs their eyes tested.

Upon his result coming in, the eyewear branded tweeted: '25th in Liverpool?' - indicating how they really feel about the Reds' No 27.

One angry Liverpool supporter went to defend his striker hitting back on social media: 'Ratio + get some glasses'.

However, Specsavers were quick to reply by tweeting: 'We have plenty of glasses'.

Nunez will be looking to prove he an eye for goal on Wednesday when Jurgen Klopp's side host West Ham in the Premier League.

It wasn't just Nunez though who was the target of Specsavers, with Manchester City also being critiqued.

The Premier League champions were voted the 'Club of the Year' by France Football and Specsavers sarcastically acknowledged their feat by tweeting: 'On a tight budget too well done.'
