Liverpool are 'preparing a £70 million offer' for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelian Tchouameni.

Jurgen Klopp's side were keen on the France international last summer before he moved to the Spanish capital and are now hunting the 23-year-old again.

Tchouameni has impressed in Spain this season and has already picked up a Club World Cup winner's medal, while England fans will remember from the goal he scored in last year's World Cup quarter final win over the Three Lions.

Despite only joining Real for £70m last summer, he could now be on the move again, as El Nacional report Liverpool are planning a similar offer to bring him to Anfield.

They also report Tchouameni has been 'slower than expected' in adapting to life in Madrid, but that he is highly thought of by the club's hierarchy, who may be unwilling to let him go.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with another exciting young midfielder in Jude Bellingham, but it remains to be seen whether they will  be able to secure his signature amid interest from the likes of Real and Manchester City.

Whoever they bring in, improving the midfield will be vital for Liverpool as they look to rebuild next year after a disastrous 2021/22.

After thumping Manchester United 7-0 a month ago, they lost three matches in a row before taking a point from a toothless performance against Chelsea.

They currently sit 13 points off the Champions League placed in eighth, but can claw their way to seventh with a strong win against league leaders Arsenal on Sunday.

Klopp insisted the focus is on individual games rather than when his side well end up, as he said ahead of the Arsenal clash: ‘It’s not about what I could consider — it is about what we get. I don’t know where we will end up.

‘I know we have to go through this. Then there’ll be a new start, because it’s a new season. That’s a massive challenge in this (modern) world. It wasn’t easy 20 years ago and now it is close to impossible.

Imagine if we lose the next 10 games and I still say, “Next season we’ll turn it around!” — it would be hard to believe.

Here at Liverpool, theoretically, it could happen. Before that, go for it against Arsenal with all we have.’

On his side's current situation, he added: ‘Whether we get a result or not we will see but I think this club has a chance to go through this situation in a classy way. And I couldn’t care less what we did in the past, honestly.

‘We can’t care about the top six. We have to win a game and then another then another. We need to find our best performance on the pitch again. It is hidden somewhere, we have to let it out.’
