Liverpool fans in Barcelona have been filmed pushing locals into a fountain as tempers flared in the city ahead of Wednesday's Champions League semi-final.

At least two videos have surfaced on social media showing supporters shoving two local people into a fountain in the middle of the popular Placa Reial square.

Hundreds of travelling fans congregated in the square on Tuesday afternoon when the incidents occurred.

It comes with six Liverpool fans arrested, according to reports in Spain.

Two workers at the Placa Reial hotel were allegedly assaulted and required medical attention, while two others suffered bruises, including a broken nose, claims Mundo Deportivo.

Spanish newspaper Sport reports that fans threw objects at police and that nearly 3,000 cans of beers, meant for street vending around the busy square, have been confiscated.

Liverpool fans have taken to social media to accuse the Spanish police of 'hugely over-reacting'.

One supporter said: 'They (Spanish police) looked like they wanted a reaction. None came. The restraint was commendable.

'They were batoned up in crash helmets. We were enjoying a drink in a bar at the side. Everyone in (the) square was having a good time.

'They rushed and batoned people for no reason. I would be shocked if I hadn't seen Spanish policing of football before.'
