Liverpool have reacted furiously to a “highly offensive” banner depicting Divock Origi in Genk.

The flag was briefly hung from the second tier in the away end in the build-up to the Champions League clash in the Luminus Arena on Wednesday evening.

Once it was spotted, officials had the banner removed with the club condemning its appearance and vowing to discover its origin.

A Liverpool spokesperson said: “The banner is highly offensive and inappropriate.

“We condemn its use at the game tonight and sought to have it removed as soon as we became aware.

“We will look to identify those responsible for bringing it into the stadium and act accordingly.”

Origi came through the youth ranks at Genk and is making his latest return to his former home.

The Belgian striker has been named among the substitutes for the Group E encounter, with the Reds looking to bolster their qualification claims with a first away group stage win since 2017.
