Liverpool news: Arne Slot eyes £30m deal after defender makes exit demand

  /  autty

Liverpool's new head coach Arne Slot is now officially at the helm - and the Dutchman could be busy in the transfer market.

The Reds are in a good place following Jurgen Klopp's exit after rebuilding last summer. However, further additions are expected as Slot looks to challenge for major honours in his maiden season.

Several players have already been linked with a move to Merseyside, while speculation over star names such as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk persists.

With Liverpool under new management, outgoings are also expected in the coming weeks. Here, Mirror Football has all the latest news from Anfield as we gear up for the window...

Slot eyes £30m deal

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville has emerged as a transfer target for Liverpool.

The Dutchman, 23, was crowned Championship Player of the Season after amassing 19 goals and nine assists for Leeds but is expected to leave Elland Road after Daniel Farke's side failed to win promotion via the play-offs.

A host of top-flight clubs have been credited with an interest in the £30million-rated winger, including Liverpool. It was recently outlined that Leeds are braced for bids for their prized asset in the upcoming transfer window.

Defender demands exit

Central defender Sepp van den Berg has hit out at Liverpool for slapping a £20million price tag on him and demanded that he be sold.

The Dutchman, 22, shone on loan in Germany with Mainz 05 last year and is eager to continue playing first-team football after failing to break through at Anfield. And he's now urged the club to sell him - but not without slamming them for placing such a high valuation on his head.

“[Liverpool] didn't exude confidence in me all this time, but you do want to hinder my future,” Van den Berg said in an interview with De Telegraaf. “I want to keep playing every week and develop myself further. In Germany, I enjoy Dortmund away with 70,000 people, Bayern Munich away against Harry Kane, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Leverkusen, against clubs like that I am challenged every week.”

Varela links squashed

Reports claiming Liverpool are set to launch a £60million move for FC Porto midfielder Alan Varela are wide of the mark.

Reports from Varela's native Argentina had indicated that the Reds were poised to make their move for the 22-year-old, who was also linked with the club last year.

However, The Echo have outlined that senior figures within the club have dismissed links to Varela, although the report adds that Liverpool could dip into the market for another defensive midfielder in the coming months.
