Liverpool transfer news: Pedro Neto talks 'opened' as chief issues Kubo update

Liverpool are playing catchup with their rivals in the summer transfer window, but Arne Slot and co are hoping that their patient approach will pay off.

The Reds have already waved goodbye to a whole host of names this summer but there's yet to be a major signing at Anfield since Jurgen Klopp left the hot seat. New sporting director Richard Hughes is working with Slot to identify the right targets who can help drive Liverpool into a new era, with stars such as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk edging closer to the twilight of their careers.

Countless names are being linked with moves to Merseyside but there's still a focus on outgoings in order to streamline Slot's squad. With little over a month until transfer deadline day rolls around, the wheels will surely need to start turning a little bit faster.

Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from Anfield.

Liverpool 'make contact' over Neto

Liverpool have reportedly contacted Pedro Neto's representatives to discuss a potential move for the Wolves winger. Neto, who at 24 has three years left on his contract, was linked with a big-money move to Arsenal last summer before recording 10 assists in 24 Premier League appearances.

The Portuguese forward's productivity under Gary O'Neil has piqued Liverpool's interest, according to Give Me Sport. It's added in the report that Neto could be part of an ambitious double deal with Wolves alongside Algeria international left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, who Arne Slot is also claimed to be a fan of.

Real Sociedad president issues Kubo update

Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has poured cold water on reports that Takefusa Kubo is in talks to join Liverpool. Kubo, 23, has enjoyed two impressive seasons with the La Liga side after playing for Barcelona and Real Madrid in his youth, but he'll be staying with Real Sociedad if Aperribay gets his way.

"There is no issue," the chief is quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo. "There are no negotiations with any club. "We're in the market, anything can happen, but Take is very happy here and he's going to continue. We love him very much, let's hope he stays at La Real forever."

Hoffenheim join Van den Berg race

German side Hoffenheim have entered the race to sign Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg. Despite being included in the Reds' pre-season tour squad, the 22-year-old centre-back wants to engineer an exit after spending the last three-and-a-half seasons out on loan with Preston North End, Schalke and most recently Bundesliga outfit Mainz.

Mainz have gone public with their desire to sign Van den Berg permanently but currently aren't willing to pay Liverpool's asking price of €20million (£17m). Sky Germany now claim that Hoffenheim want to sign the Dutchman, with all eyes now on how he performs in the USA.
