Liverpool transfer news: Salah contract warning as Robertson successor found

The decision to postpone the Merseyside Derby has handed Liverpool an unexpected break to rest and recover.

The Reds return to action on Tueday when they travel to Girona in the Champions League. They will also be having an eye on the January transfer window, which opens in just over three weeks' time.

Arne Slot's side are enjoying a brilliant season and remain top of the Premier League despite the trip to Everton being called off. That could lead to Reds' chiefs looking for quality reinforcements to hand a second wind to their title bid.

Bubbling away alongside that is the futures of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom are out of contract in the summer. Here, Mirro Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Robertson replacement found

Andy Robertson has seen his game-time increasingly split with Kostas Tsimikas this season. And with the 30-year-old's contract expiring in 18 months time, it appears the Reds are creating a succession plan.

According to Relevo, Liverpool target Milos Kerkez is increasingly likely to leave Bournemouth. The Cherries are already lining up replacements for the Hungary international themselves, such is the confidence that he will move on.

It is said that Kerkez's exit is 'very likely' as long as nothing goes wrong between now and the end of the season. Liverpool will be battling Manchester United for his signature, with the Red Devils also in the market for a left-back.

Kvaratskhelia boost received

Liverpool have received a boost in their hopes of signing Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Serie A side's sporting director has revealed contract talks have been placed on hold, presenting an opportunity to the Reds.

“We saw each other, we talked,” Giovanni Manna said. “We don’t want to continue discussing it now; we will do so again at the end of the season because he will still have two years left on his contract by then. We want him to stay focused on the pitch, and we want to reward him.

“On this matter, we are also calm. We meet with all our players’ agents; it was a meeting like many others, and we talked about a lot of things. Mati is having a good season, and we are very happy.”

Shearer sends Salah warning

Alan Shearer has sent a stark warning to Liverpool as they close in on handing Mo Salah a new contract. The Egyptian looks set to extend his stay at Anfield by two years, though Shearer is concerned this could expose them in future negotiations.

"When I hear people say just give him what he wants, in terms of the Salah situation, you can't just give a player what he wants," Shearer told Radio 5 Live. One, you don't know what he's asking for, because he might put the club in an impossible situation if you give him what he wants, then someone else wants to know what he's being paid.

"Then the next big hitter that comes in will want and demand what he's being paid. There has to be a balance to something. We don't know what goal bonus Salah is on, so it's a very complicated situation when you're talking about contracts for players who are in their 30s, but have been a huge part of the football club."
