Liverpool transfer round-up: Ben White move again under consideration

  /  autty

Liverpool have remained quiet during the January transfer window as it approaches the halfway point.

The Reds have been advised to sign a centre-half as they deal with several injuries in that area.

Jurgen Klopp though has so far resisted temptation despite targets being linked with moves to Anfield.

January is a notoriously difficult time to do business and Liverpool have rarely got involved in midseason deals.

Forthcoming games may force their hand though with plenty of time still to run.

The uncertain future of Georginio Wijnaldum also continues to hang over the club.

Here are the latest transfer rumours from Anfield.

Reds again eye White

Ben White is once again of interest to Liverpool, who have tracked him since his days at Leeds.

The defender impressed while on loan at the Yorkshire side and Brighton braced themselves for several bids back in the summer.

They stood firm however and retained the player's services, but they may have to again dig their heels in.

Liverpool are weighing up a move for White as they deal with their injury crisis, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Upamecano not moving

RB Leipzig have maintained that Dayot Upamecano will not be sold this month, according to the Guardian.

The centre-half is highly-rated by Europe's elite and is tipped to move on in the summer.

A clause in his contact means Upamecano can be signed for a cut-price €42m in six months, which is excellent value in today's market.

Leipzig could attempt to sell the player this month and demand a far greater fee for him, but they don't look prepared to do so.

The defender will be tasked with keeping the Liverpool forwards quiet when they take on Leipzig in the Champions League in February.

Van Dijk offer incoming

Virgil van Dijk will be offered a fresh contract at Anfield.

The defender, currently out injured, has a deal at Liverpool that runs until 2023.

Fabrizio Romano though has told   CBS Sports  that new terms will be tabled sooner rather than later.

He said: “Liverpool, on the other hand, are focused on the return of Virgil van Dijk.

"The board has plans to offer the Dutch defender the renewal of the contract, and the negotiations will begin in the coming months.”
