Liverpool transfer round-up: New Alisson contract as youth star to join rivals

  /  autty

Liverpool face an important transfer window and have begun the summer promisingly, capturing central defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

Central defence was always going to be a key issue with it looking unlikely that the Reds will make Ozan Kabak’s loan deal permanent, with the futures of Nathaniel Phillips and Ben Davies also uncertain.

Georginio Wijnaldum’s midfield exit will likely lead to increasing influence for Curtis Jones but signing a new central midfielder is likely to now be the priority for the Reds.

There are multiple fringe players at Anfield who may be cashed in upon to raise funds for rejuvenating the squad.

With that in mind, here are the latest transfer rumours surrounding Liverpool.

Alisson poised for new deal

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to sign a new contract at the club, according to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The 28-year-old’s current deal at the Reds is set to expire in the summer of 2024, but terms are set to be agreed to extend that agreement by two years through to the summer of 2026.

The Brazilian has clocked up 130 first-team appearances for the club since his move from Roma in 2018, despite suffering from injury setbacks over the past two campaigns.

He has already won both the Champions League and Premier League titles during his time with the Reds and scored the memorable stoppage-time winner at West Brom late in the 2020/21 campaign - which helped propel Jurgen Klopp’s side to a top four finish.

Youth star to join rivals

One of Liverpool’s brightest academy players look set to leave the club and join one of their Premier League rivals.

A report in the Liverpool Echo highlights that 16-year-old Ethan Ennis has not come to an agreement over a new contract with the Reds and could now join either Manchester United or Chelsea.

It is highlighted how the player, who starred in the Under-18s side run to the FA Youth Cup final, has visited Chelsea’s training facilities at Cobham but is close to agreeing a move to United.

Liverpool have signed up to 10 players to first-year scholar terms including Kaide Gordon, Stefan Bajcetic and Calum Scanlon but Ennis looks set to depart to a major rival.

Barca battle for Liverpool targets

It is no secret that Liverpool’s transfer priority this year is to strengthen the centre of midfielder and they appear to be battling with Barcelona over similar targets.

The Reds are desperate to replace Georginio Wijnaldum - who also rejected Barca in favour of a move to Paris Saint-Germain - and both clubs are searching for powerful, dynamic midfielders.

A report from Diario AS claims that Barca have been offered the chance to sign Lille midfielder Renato Sanches on a loan deal with the option to buy.

The Portugal midfielder has been linked with a move to Liverpool and is said to be an option at the Camp Nou because their negotiations to sign Saul Niguez - another Reds target, who had been reported to be involved in a swap deal for Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid - have become complicated.

Those reports are verified by Catalan media outlet El Mundo Deportivo, who say that Sanches is ultimately unlikely to end up at the Camp Nou.

That suggests that both Sanches and Saul could yet be option for the Reds this summer.
