Tottenham Hotspur face Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, so we simulated the clash to try and predict the final score
Tottenham face a tough trip north on Sunday as they take on Liverpool in the Premier League.
Following their dismal 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle last weekend, Spur s showed a big improvement against Manchester United on Thursday night, coming from two goals down to draw 2-2. The point moved the Lilywhites up to fifth in the table, just six points off the Premier League top four.
If results go Spurs' way and they pick up three points against Liverpool on Sunday, Ryan Mason's side would be just one point off the top four, though Man United would still possess two games in hand over them. It won't be easy though, with Spurs winless at Anfield in almost 12 years.
So, could Spurs get their top-four hopes back on track? Let's take a look.
To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.
We predict that Liverpool could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Jones; Salah, Gakpo, Jota.
We predict that Spurs could line up in a 3-4-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Forster; Romero, Dier, Lenglet; Porro, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Davies; Kulusevski, Kane, Son.
After a quiet first half which was extremely evenly matched, Spurs switched off after the restart, allowing Liverpool to take the lead through Curtis Jones. It seemed going behind woke Mason's side up though, with Harry Kane drawing his side level minutes later.
Some fantastic movement from Spurs' attack dragged Liverpool's defence apart, allowing a huge gap in the centre for Kane to penetrate. After receiving the ball, the striker fired a shot at goal, picking out the gap between Alisson's legs and finding the net from just inside the box.
All of a sudden, the game was extremely open, with both sides creating lots of chances and Spurs seeing more of the ball. A 10-minute spell saw Spurs camp in the Liverpool half, but an error allowed the hosts to restore their lead with 20 minutes remaining.
Oliver Skipp attempted an ambitious pass through the heart of the Liverpool midfield that was quickly intercepted, allowing the Reds to hit Spurs on the break. One long ball allowed Luis Diaz to break through one-on-one with Fraser Forster, and the Colombian curled around the 'keeper to make it 2-1.
Spurs threw everyone forward in the final stages as they desperately looked for a second goal, but it left them exposed at the back, allowing Liverpool to make it 3-1 in the 89th minute with a devastating counter-attack.
FIFA 23 predicts that Spurs could fall to defeat, losing 3-1 in the simulation. A loss could be a damning result in their battle for a top-four finish, with Spurs' wait for a win at Anfield continuing.
