Liverpool beat Everton in a dramatic Merseyside derby to remain fifth place in the Premier League table in a boost to their Champions League qualification hopes
Liverpool's chances of securing a Champions League spot received a significant boost following their victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby. The Reds claimed a thrilling 2-1 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday afternoon, strengthening their push for a top-five finish.
Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock for Liverpool, just two minutes after Iliman Ndiaye had a goal disallowed for Everton for offside.
Everton battled back through a close-range Beto finish to level things up, but Virgil van Dijk had the last word with a stoppage-time header to seal all three points for Liverpool.
The victory keeps Liverpool in fifth place in the Premier League, now seven points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea following their loss to Manchester United the previous day, with five games remaining, reports the Liverpool Echo.
