Liverpool's three-week break: When do they next play? Why are they off for so long?

After an extremely congested run of fixtures, Jurgen Klopp finds himself in the peculiar position of having too much time to prepare for Liverpool's next game.

The Reds will have had a total of three weeks off by the time they next play against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on April 4.

This kind of break comes because Klopp's side are already out of the FA Cup - with quarter finals taking place on March 20 and March 21 - and then there's a two-week international break that follows.

As such, the Liverpool players were given a couple of days off after beating Wolves on Monday night, on March 15, though they returned to training later on in the week.

The break will be a welcome one for the defending Premier League champions, who have slipped to sixth place after a run of six defeats in their last eight league games.

"We will use that time to train and then we can change it, because we have to change it," Klopp said in an interview with LFC TV.

"I don't know if that's what we need, but we need something.

"Being together and being on the training ground and working on things always helped us and will help us this time."

When and who do Liverpool play next?

When Liverpool return to action against Arsenal on April 4, it will be just a handful of days before they take on Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final.

In the case of Zinedine Zidane's side, they will have played two more matches than their opponents in the three weeks beforehand and they'll have the Clasico in between the two legs of the quarter-final tie.

The French coach will be expecting a tough test when Liverpool arrive at Valdebebas. With a five-point gap to Chelsea in fourth place, the Reds' concentration will be firmly fixed on rescuing their season in Europe.
