Loris Karius has beard trimmed on eve of new season

He may be, by shirt number at least, Liverpool's No 1 but Loris Karius's future at Liverpool remains up in the air following the world record arrival of Alisson Becker.

While many expect him to be trimmed from the starting line-up for the upcoming campaign, the German goalkeeper opted for a cut of a different kind, going for a Monday shave at Barber Barber in Hale.

Pictured in a striped apron in the barber's chair, Karius took just 30 minutes before emerging much like he entered in a far from transformative trim.

Karius took to Instagram to show off his latest look as the blonde goalkeeper posed for a selfie in his car.

Having been favoured over Simon Mignolet early on in pre-season, Karius got a taste of what the future appears to hold in Dublin as he was resigned to the bench.

Alisson impressed in the demolition of Napoli, keeping a clean sheet as he prepares to make his Premier League debut against West Ham this weekend.

After falling short in the Champions League final, with Karius ending the match in tears after two mistakes, there is a sense Liverpool can push Manchester City all the way in the league this time round.

Along with Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri have all added depth to the Reds squad and the pressure will be on boss Jurgen Klopp to find the right blend for success.

But with Alisson setting the record fee for a goalkeeper, Karius could find himself on the bench for the foreseeable future.
