Loris Karius' partner writes message for Newcastle goalkeeper ahead of the Carabao Cup final

Lorius Karius' partner has penned a heartfelt message of support to the Newcastle goalkeeper ahead of the Carabao Cup final.

The former Liverpool stopper is set to make his first appearance for the club in the clash against Man United due to Nick Pope's suspension and the fact that Martin Dubravka is cup-tied.

After a turbulent few years in his career, following his nightmare performance in the 2017-2018 Champions League final, all eyes will be on Karius at Wembley and now his partner Diletta Leotta has offered her support ahead of the game.

Speaking to the Athletic, Leotta said: 'I would like to write this letter to you tomorrow, or later, once the game taking you back on the pitch after these two interminable, painful and incredible years is over.

'The two years of sad nights, the knot in your throat and the bad thoughts that kept you away from playing, but not from your greatest passion; the green football pitch that makes millions of children dream every day.

'A big thank you to your team and the strength you’ve been able to find in one another. Of course, we don’t deny it, the blow was hard, but, as you taught me, life is 10 per cent what happens to you and 90 per cent how you decide to react.

'Sometimes you need to take a step back in order to make a better run-up and I am sure this run-up will lead you and the whole team to fly. No one deserves it more.'

Karius has not played a competitive match for two years and his last game for an English club was the Champions League final with Liverpool in 2018.

He made two mistakes leading to Real Madrid goals in a 3-1 defeat that night and was subject to fierce criticism.

Since then, the German goalkeeper spent loan spells with Turkish side Besiktas and German side Union Berlin before arriving at St James Park.

His opportunity to play has arisen after Nick Pope was dramatically sent off in their recent defeat to Newcastle, for handling the ball outside the area.

Martin Dubravka, meanwhile, is Newcastle's second-choice but is ineligible to play given the fact he is on-loan from Manchester United and cannot face his parent club.

England's first domestic cup final is set to take place on Sunday, with Newcastle set to face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

Newcastle progressed through to the final after defeating Southampton 3-1 on aggregate.

In the semi-final second leg, a Sean Longstaff double was enough to secure Newcastle's place at Wembley after coming into the game with just a 1-0 lead, with Che Adams' goal for the Saints proving just a consolation.

In the other semi-final, Manchester United secured a 2-0 home win against Nottingham Forest.
