Tottenham will allows Brazilian winger Lucas Moura to leave for free at the end of the season after the club decided against triggering his contract extension.
Moura's current deal with the Premier League outfit runs until 2024, however it has been suggested that the extension relied upon the club activating the final year of his contract by December 31st of last year.
Spurs haven't decided to take that option and will allow the 30-year-old's contract to run down before letting him leave as a free agent at the end of the season, according to The Telegraph.
The situation allows Moura to talk to other clubs and sign a pre-contract for the 23/24 season, but could leave the club in January if a suitable offer is made in the current transfer window.
Moura became an automatic club hero after scoring an incredible second-half hattrick against Ajax in 2020 to send Spurs to their first-ever Champions League final.
Since arriving in Tottenham from PSG in 2018, Moura has established himself as a key member of the club's Premier League squad, but has been hampered by injury during Antonio Conte's tenure.
Moura returned to action in October after seeing the start of his season delayed due to a tendon, but has been limited of game time, starting just two games against Sporting Lisbon and Marseille in the Champions League.
Aston Villa registered their interest in the winger during the summer transfer window but didn't submit a bid for Moura who is now enjoying what will likely be his last season in a Spurs shirt.
Tottenham have invested heavily in attacking players since Conte's arrival last season with Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski completing permanent moves to the club in the summer, while the performances of Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane have further pushed Moura to the periphery.
The Brazilian will hope to contribute during what will be his final month at the club as he bids to help Spurs lift their first piece of silverware since 2008 when the club won the League Cup.
