Luton are confident they will be able to completely rebuild the Bobbers Stand at Kenilworth Road in time for their return to the Premier League in August.
The club have shared their plans for a £10million overhaul with the league and demolition work is set to start next week.
The Premier League are willing to grant Luton a maximum of three successive away games at the start of the season in the event of construction delays, but that is not envisaged. Luton chief executive Gary Sweet is adamant they can get the job done with the club desperate to begin their first top-flight season for 31 years at home.
The Bobbers Stand, which runs down one side of the pitch, was converted into executive boxes in 1986. It needs to be replaced with a media centre, TV and data analysis studios, toilets and a canteen.
Last week Sweet said of the plans: ‘If anyone can, we can. We’ve got to rebuild a stand but we’ve gone from non-League to the Premier League so we can manage that small matter.’
Kenilworth Road, Luton’s home since 1905, will be the smallest ground in the top flight with a capacity of just 10,356, but the club plan to expand it.
Long term they aim to move to the Power Court site in the centre of town, with a stadium that can hold about 19,500 fans.
