James Maddison had his sign - which read 'north London is WHITE' - confiscated at the World Darts Championship final on Wednesday night, according to reports.

Maddison watched on as Luke Littler's dream of becoming the world's youngest-ever darts champion was dashed after a breathtaking comeback by Luke Humphries, who won five straight sets to claim a 7-4 victory.

Despite the gripping drama on the oche, revellers made their own fun with anti-Tottenham chants.

A chorus of 'Tottenham get battered everywhere they go' was belted out around a raucous Alexandra Palace as footballing rivalry overspilled into the darts.

Spurs star Maddison hit back by holding up a sign which read 'north London is WHITE' in reference to his team's rivalry with Arsenal.

However, according to the Daily Star, this sign was later confiscated by security staff.

It's known that stewards at the World Darts Championship are known to take a strict approach to messages that could be seen as offensive or trigger unrest.

Maddison is a big darts fan, styling his signature goal celebration around the sport.

He even invited Littler to watch Spurs take on Bournemouth at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and had a photo taken with the 16-year-old sensation.

Less than a day after he secured victory over idol Raymond van Barneveld, earlier in the tournament, Littler was spotted in the stands in north London for Spurs' clash with Bournemouth.

The picture of the two English stars quickly re-emerged on social media after Littler's final defeat - with many producing memes about the end of his fairytale run at Alexandra Palace.

Certain users attempted to find cause for his defeat after round after round of nerveless matchplay, and poked fun at the Tottenham-Arsenal rivalry as if to explain why he had been defeated on the night.

One fan shared a picture of Littler posing with Gunners Aaron Ramsdale and Declan Rice, captioning the snap: 'Luke Littler was bound to bottle it'.

But Arsenal supporters were quick to respond, sharing pictures of the darts prodigy posing with James Maddison when he invited Littler to watch their match against Bournemouth over the weekend.

One labelled a picture: 'The moment Luke Littler lost the trophy (heartbreak emoji)'.

Another added the caption: '4-2 up in the final and lost 7-4. It all makes sense now.'
