Manchester City set a new Premier League goalscoring record as they dismantled Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.
Match Reports
Manchester City put their defeat to Southampton behind them with a comprehensive 5-0 home victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday. The 1-0 loss at St Mary's Stadium was City's ninth of the Premier League season and left them a demoralising 23 points behind new champions Liverpool at the top.
That gap was closed back to 20 - while the distance to Chelsea in third was stretched to nine - as Pep Guardiola's side brushed aside Newcastle through goals from Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and a Federico Fernandez own goal.

Match Events
10' GOAL! Man City 1-0 Newcastle (Jesus)
Well that did not take long! Newcastle's resistance lasts for less than 10 minutes. David Silva is slipped in down the left and squares for Jesus, who converts unmarked from the edge of the six-yard box. Poor defending from the visitors.
21' GOAL! Man City 2-0 Newcastle (Mahrez)
Nobody picks up the run of De Bruyne and he cuts the ball back for Mahrez to convert from eight yards. That is an almost identical goal to their first.
58' OWN GOAL! Man City 3-0 Newcastle (Fernandez)
The third goal finally arrives and it is a rather comical one from Newcastle's perspective. Foden and Jesus exchange passes and the latter tries to bring it inside. Ritchie flicks the ball away from the striker but only succeeds in sending the ball into his own net, with the final touch coming off Fernandez.
65' GOAL! Man City 4-0 Newcastle (David Silva)
This is sublime from David Silva! He is desperate to take the free-kick from around 25 yards out and this is why. He curls the ball over the wall and into the top-left corner, with Dubravka barely bothering to move from his spot.
91' GOAL! Man City 5-0 Newcastle (Sterling)
Sterling adds a fifth goal for the home side in the first minute of added time. David Silva steals the ball back for City high up the pitch, unselfishly rolls it into the feet of Sterling and the substitute forward slides it past Dubravka with his second touch.
