Manchester City are eyeing up a potential move form inform Spanish fullback Miguel Gutierrez at table topping Girona.

The Spanish club have shocked the footballing world throughout this La Liga season so far as they sit first in the league and three points ahead of Real Madrid.

Manager Michel has revolutionised a side that just finished tenth last season, as they have manaed just one loss in the best start to a league season in their history.

One of the integral parts of Girona's success so far has been the emergence of former Real Madrid leftback Gutierrez, who has been a consistent presence on the lft side.

As the January window approaches and Pep Guardiola looks to reinforce his slightly underachieving side, Gutierrez' name has reportedly been uttered at the Etihad according to Sport Bild.

The Spaniard has made 15 appearances so far this season and has registered one goal and one assist.

However the goal came in a recent 4-2 win over FC Barcelona, with Guterriez smashing an excellent left footed strike on the counter.

The speedy youngster still has a contract in Girona until 2027, but has an exit clause of 35m euros (around £30m)

The key aspect of this transfer is that Girona are backed by the City Football Group led by Sheikh Mansour and Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

The multi-club ownership could play right into City's hands should they wish to bring the talented 22-year-old to the Etihad.

However with a supposed 'feeder' club doing so well in one of European football's most prestigious leagues it may prove more difficult than originally thought to Spaniard away from Girona.

City also may face stiff competition from fellow Premier League side Arsenal and Gutierrez' former club Real Madrid who have a first right of refusal for the player.

The Gunners previously brought in Jurrien Timber to play at full back but the Dutchman suffered a horror ACL injury that has ruled him out of most of the season.

Meanwhile City will undoubtedly look to offload Kalvin Phillips in January after a disappointing move from Leeds last year.

The England international has barely played for the Cityzens and, despite being one of Gareth Southgate's most trusted midfielders, he will need minutes should his aspirations be to start at the Euros next year.
