Manchester City have reportedly held talks with Benfica regarding a potential £100million move for Portuguese wonderkid Joao Felix.

The 19-year-old has had an outstanding breakout season with the Portuguese champions, attracting attention from some of Europe's biggest clubs including Manchester United.

But it appears Pep Guardiola's side have stolen a march on their rivals by opening up talks with the Portuguese club, with the Sun reporting that club officials met in London yesterday.

Chief executive Ferran Soriano is reported to have had a meeting with Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira and agent Jorge Mendes at the Bulgari Hotel in Knightsbridge.

City claim the meeting was a chance encounter, according to the report.

Felix, an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, has caught the eye by scoring 15 times in the league from 26 appearances.

He can play across the front line and has proven adept as a leading striker, making his versatility appealing to Guardiola and City's fluid tactical structure.

His fine form saw him earn his first international call-up for Portugal ahead of the Nations League finals next week.
