Manchester City are expected to send goalkeeper Zack Steffen out on loan to Fortuna Dusseldorf this summer.
The Premier League champions spent in the region of £7million to sign Steffen from Columbus Crew but his immediate future lies away from the Etihad Stadium.
The 24-year-old played his final MLS game last week, against City's sister club New York. He will depart for Europe following the United States' Gold Cup campaign.
Steffen is then set for a season with Dusseldorf, who finished 10th in the Bundesliga.
Aro Muric has acted as Ederson's deputy for Pep Guardiola's Treble winners given the injury problems that plagued Claudio Bravo.
Steffen, who has eight US caps, is no stranger to Germany having spent two years with Freiburg's reserve side.
'There are a lot of nerves, a lot of excitement, a little bit of sadness leaving the chapter in Columbus,' he said earlier this week.
'But I'm really focused on the Gold Cup and doing well here, and raising the trophy here, and then I'll focus on what lies next.'
