Man City 'stance on Dias & Koulibaly transfer talk to solve defenders crisis'

  /  autty

The transfer rumour mill has gone into overdrive since injury to Aymeric Laporte left Manchester City short of a centre back.

All the talk of City being in the chase for Benfica defender Ruben Dias - who they considered in the summer - or being prepared to break the bank for Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly, are agent chatter at best, wild speculation at worst.

The fact is that City currently have NO plans to sign a defender in January.

That has been Guardiola's position all along, unchanged by injury calamities, and it is confirmed by club sources who know the transfer strategy intimately.

Guardiola called it a “challenge” to get through this period with just one centre back – a situation about to be eased by the return of John Stones.

He has reiterated his faith in Garcia and Harwood-Bellis, the latter now a member of the first team squad, and is not pushing for money to sign another defender.

Of course, as with everything in football, that can change – if City keep leaking points, or the centre back position becomes a real problem, it will be assessed. But for now, no.
