Manchester City have committed to paying casual matchday staff for the remainder of this season.
The Premier League champions will compensate 'directly engaged workers' who could have suffered a loss of earnings amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
Sportsmail understands in the region of 1,000 staff – including stewards, ticketing support and event operations – received confirmation of the news on Wednesday afternoon.
In an email sent to employees, signed by chief operating officer Omar Berrada, City admitted they would have preferred a quicker process.
Workers disclosed financial fears to Sportsmail last week and claimed that they were met with a 'wall of silence' from the club when attempting dialogue.
City maintained that the scale and structure of the City Football Group dictated that the review took time to process.
Staff will be recompensed for any matches they were due to work at the Etihad Stadium, including postponed fixtures against Arsenal and Burnley. Five others, including the Champions League date with Real Madrid, were scheduled.
'Matchday workers will also receive a payment, based on pro-rata earnings over the last three months, applied across this season's remaining five home fixtures,' the email read.
'The payment will be made to all directly engaged matchday casual workers who have worked for the club in the past three months.'
A City statement read: 'Manchester City's directly engaged match day casual workers play a vital role to support club operations throughout the season and we recognise that this is, and will continue to be, an uncertain time for all of them.
'We hope that this income will provide a level of financial stability over the coming weeks, and we look forward to welcoming them back to the club when the season resumes.'
