Manchester United are planning to offer Mason Greenwood a new contract in 2021.

The development, revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast, comes after Greenwood only put pen to paper on new terms in October 2019.

The 19-year-old has only found the back once in the Premier League this season in a 3-1 win away at West Ham earlier in December, while he also scored in wins over Luton and RB Leipzig in the Carabao Cup and Champions League respectively earlier in the campaign.

Greenwood has not yet hit the heights of last season - when he netted 17 goals in 49 games in all competitions for the Red Devils - but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big admirer of the youngster and is evidently keen to keep him at Old Trafford.

Greenwood was sent home from England duty along with Phil Foden after the pair broke Covid-19 restrictions by inviting two local women back to their team hotel in Iceland following the Three Lions' 1-0 win in Reykjavik and Greenwood more recently got on the wrong side of Solskjaer after turning up late to training on several occasions.

However, Greenwood has won back the trust of his Norwegian boss and has started the last five games for United, the most recent of which being Wednesday night's Carabao Cup quarter-final win at Everton.

Former Red Devils legend Andy Cole has backed Greenwood to propel himself into the pantheon of all-time great strikers, telling The Target Men Podcast: 'I believe Mason Greenwood has all the attributes and all of the potential to go on to become one of the world's best strikers within the next five years.

'I think if Mason continues to work hard and keeps his head down, he will achieve whatever he wants to achieve in football. I'm very excited to see him in a Manchester United shirt for years to come.'
