Manchester United 'could make a summer swoop for Burnley and England goalkeeper Nick Pope' as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer draws up a list of targets.
The Old Trafford club are reportedly willing to sell No 1 David de Gea, their highest-earner on wages of £370,000-a-week, if the right offer came in.
But they apparently believe Dean Henderson, 22, is too inexperienced to replace De Gea on a full-time basis for the moment.
The Daily Star report that Pope, 28, could therefore fit the bill but United may have to stump up £50million for the England international.
That was Burnley's valuation when Chelsea tried to sign him last summer and it could rise further if he is involved with England at this summer's European Championship.
And United could face competition for Pope from Tottenham, who could be forced to replace long-standing keeper Hugo Lloris if he leaves in June.
As a back-up, the Star report, United have identified Brighton's Spanish stopper Robert Sanchez, 23.
Pope has kept nine clean sheets and conceded 32 goals in 28 Premier League outings for Burnley so far this season.
He is expected to be named by Gareth Southgate in his England squad for Euro 2020 but is likely to be back-up to Everton's Jordan Pickford.
One potential question mark is over Pope's ability to confidently pass the ball out from the back, with Sean Dyche's Burnley used to a more direct approach.
De Gea, 30, is contracted to United until 2023 but reports suggest the club could sell him this summer if the right offer was received.
He has missed United's last three matches on paternity leave after returning to Spain for the birth of his daughter Yanay but could be in contention for their games next weekend after completing quarantine.
Henderson has deputised for the goalless draw away to Crystal Palace and the 2-0 win over Manchester City, as well as Thursday night's Europa League draw with AC Milan.
The England stopper was at fault for Milan's late equaliser from Simon Kjaer, who headed in from a corner.
Henderson is set to start on Sunday night when United host West Ham at Old Trafford.
