Man United defender Eric Bailly agrees a one-year contract with Besiktas

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is closing in on a permanent move to Besiktas as Erik ten Hag prepares to finally get rid of the unwanted defender.

Bailly joined United in a £30m deal from LaLiga side Villarreal under Jose Mourinho seven-years ago, but has failed to convince Ten Hag he is worthy of a place within his squad.

The 29-year-old spent last season on-loan at French side Marseille before returning to United at the end of the season following the expiration of his loan spell.

However, Bailly is now set for a move to Turkey as talks between United, Besiktas and Bailly continue at an advanced stage.

Bailly has been courted by the Turkish club throughout the transfer window and will sign a one-year deal at Besiktas where he will aim to reignite his stalling career.

Turkish sides have up until September 15 to make additions to their squads, whereas the Premier League transfer window shut last Friday.

Bailly has had interest from the likes of Fulham and Marseille also but has failed to agree on terms after holding talks with both clubs.

However, it is understood he has compromised on terms to conclude his move to Besiktas as the curtain draws close on a largely underwhelming Man United career.

Bailly has struggled with long-term injuries in recent years that prevented him from rediscovering the career best form that he arrived in Manchester with previously.

United have cover after Jonny Evans signed a one year contract with the club last Friday.
