Man United 'eyeing move for RB Salzburg striker Daka' after scoring twice against Liverpool

Manchester United have joined Liverpool in lining up a move for RB Salzburg striker Patson Daka, according to reports.

The 21-year-old Zambian scored twice for the Austrian side in their 2-2 draw with Jurgen Klopp's side in a friendly on Tuesday.

And now The Sun claim United have joined the Reds and several other big clubs in tracking him.

Daka scored 24 goals in 31 league games as Salzburg won the Austrian Bundesliga title for the seventh year in a row in 2019/20.

That title came despite selling star striker Erling Haaland to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in January, at the expense of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

The Zambia international is the latest player off the production line, with the club already having produced current Anfield stars Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Takumi Minamino.

He also faced Liverpool in the Champions League last season, after which the Reds decided to purchase Minamino.

But the report adds United would offer serious competition to their rivals if Daka is sold, but they would have to fork out a fee of more than £20m after the forward signed a new deal until 2024 last year.

United do have other targets, with Sportsmail revealing on Saturday that talks have been held with Aston Villa regarding Jack Grealish while they are also monitoring Ajax star Donny van de Beek.

However, the club also know the cost of not swooping for young talent soon enough after missing out on signing Norwegian star Haaland from Molde for an initial fee of £2.7m in July 2018, some 18 months before he turned them down to join Dortmund for £18m.

Lyon striker Moussa Dembele was also a reported prime target for United in 2016, but the Frenchman instead moved to Celtic before joining Lyon two years ago.

The 24-year-old is once again a target this summer, but is now expected to cost at least £60m.
