Tottenham takeover news as latest Manchester United lands Spurs and Daniel Levy serious Sheikh Jassim reality that they must face
It's quite the time to be a Tottenham fan. On one hand the club are playing some of the best football seen since 2019 and the Mauricio Pochettino era, but on the other there are still huge question marks over the long-term aims for the club.
Daniel Levy has even more power than ever before as chairman with his role in overseeing the day-to-day activities being heightened at this current stage. Following what was an exciting but also frustrating summer in some quarters, fans are happy to have their Tottenham back.
Off-the-field issues still exist with the failure to clear out the squad leaving somewhat of a shadow over a summer of positive work in the arrivals department. The deadline day panic to sell and loan players across the pitch summed up the problems remaining but the 5-2 win over Burnley less than 24 hours later settled things down once more.
Outside of that, there are still rumblings of discontent over just where Tottenham are going and wish to go. Questions regarding just how they attempt to challenge the teams around them financially in a world of increasing transfer fees and nation-state ownership. Tottenham's British core and trading in a profitability style is outdated.
Jay-Z's interest has followed on from other rumours that spread earlier this year when Levy is said to have had a meeting with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khaleifi. The link here is that QSI (Qatar Sports Investments) fund PSG and Al-Khelaifi is the chairman there as well.
Earlier this week it emerged that the Glazer family, owners of Manchester United, had instead taken the club 'off the market' despite it never truly being on the market and that they would prefer to wait until a better financial environment in 2025. Although other reports state that Ratcliffe and Jassim are not aware of such a conclusion, it is interesting for Spurs fans to keep a track of.
Earlier this year it was reported by ESPN that Shekih Jassim would consider a move for Tottenham if a deal collapsed with Manchester United. Mark Ogden expanded on this, telling the United Stand: "They want the Premier League footprint. Somebody told me recently, they said that if the Qataris don't buy Man United, they'll be back and they might end up buying Tottenham.
"He said, look, if you've got Manchester City owned by Abu Dhabi, you've got Newcastle owned by Saudi Arabia, if Qataris maybe buy Tottenham, then you've got three clubs who can pull away."
