Man Utd U23s' defeat by Southampton U23s marred by 'bomb scare'

Manchester United and Southampton’s Under 23 teams were caught up in a security threat on Friday night.

Both sides were ordered to board their respective buses immediately after Southampton’s 1-0 victory at Leigh Sports Village.

The potential threat - which eye witnesses claim was a bomb scare - was identified at full-time. Police were called and attended the scene.

Leigh’s stadium complex was thoroughly searched by security staff and the incident was declared a false alarm after a hoax call.

That was not before United and Saints’ youngsters were rushed onto their coaches still wearing full kits while the search took hold.
