Man Utd appear to get new No11 on squad list - but nobody knows who

Manchester United appear to have an alternative new striker to Liverpool-bound Cody Gakpo - but supporters have been asking just who Betinho really is.

The official Premier League website seem to have made a rather large blunder in listing a Portuguese forward named Betinho in the Red Devils playing squad before swiftly removing him.

The site had showed that the mystery figure had been in the United playing squad since back in 2019 but was yet to make his senior debut - despite holding the number 11 shirt.

That led to fans searching the name online and coming across forward Alberto Alves Coelho, known as Betinho, who plays in the fourth tier of Portuguese football for Espinho.

The 29-year-old did have a very brief spell in English football, playing on loan at Brentford in 2014 while on the books at Sporting Lisbon.

While United may well be on the looking for a new striker in January having waved goodbye to Cristiano Ronaldo and missed out on Gakpo - Betinho probably isn't the answer.

Man Utd fans, which striker do you want to see join the club in January? Tell us in the comments section below.

The odd update came before Erik ten Hag's side took on Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in their return to Premier League action, with the manager looking to build on their Carabao Cup win over Derby.

One swift Wikipedia user even edited Betinho's page to say he scored a hat-trick in the fixture, despite him of course not being involved in the fixture.

United sit fifth in the Premier League table with eight wins from 14 matches before the World Cup break, looking to go a point behind Tottenham in fourth.

Ten Hag said: "We have to be a team that's hard to beat and that has to be the approach in every game, home or away.

"But to win football games, it is definitely important when you have that philosophy, [being] hard to beat and conceding less goals.

"We are in a good direction, so we have to keep that process going. So, it's about defending tough, showing discipline and not a 'but' or a 'if', no, just do your job."
