Manchester United are set to sign exciting teenage prospects Facundo Pellistri and Willy Kambwala before Monday's transfer deadline.
Pellistri, 18, is will finalise a £10million move from Penarol while United will pay £3m in compensation for 16-year-old Sochaux defender Kambwala.
The two youngsters may not be the ready-made first-team players Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate for but both have the potential to have successful careers at Old Trafford.
Pellistri, known as 'Facu' made his professional debut for Penarol in August 2019 at the age of 17 after impressing manager Diego Forlan and he scored his first goal three months later.
Forlan, who played for United between 2002 and 2004, recommended him to his former club and the Red Devils have fought off strong competition from Real Madrid, Juventus and Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Lyon and Boca Juniors.
Like legendary Uruguay forwards Luis Suarerz and Edinson Cavani, Pellistri began playing under the ‘baby futbol’ scheme at the age of four.
He started his career with La Picada and River Plate Montevideo before joining the youth ranks at boyhood club Penarol.
Pellistri made 20 appearances in his breakout campaign and he already has a goal and assist in his first five matches this season after being handed the No 10 shirt.
Regarded as one of Uruguay’s most promising players, the winger is expected to be handed his national team debut imminently.
Described as a player with a devastating turn of pace, the skilful youngster is can operate on either flank and enjoys taking opponents on.
Speaking to Fox Sports' Joga Bonito in April, Forlan said: 'Pellistri has huge potential. There is still a lot to work on. He is growing and he makes the difference. We know it will be difficult to keep him for a long time. He has great pace and that is hard to handle.'
At the other end of the pitch, defender Kambwala has also attracted interest from several of Europe's top clubs, including rivals Liverpool.
United were linked with the youngster earlier in the transfer window but after turning 16 he is now old enough to sign a professional contract.
Kambwala, who plays in the centre of defence, was born in DR Congo but has been called up to France's Under 16 squad.
Such is the talent of defender, Sochaux were desperate to hold on to their academy star and even rejected United's opening bid of £1m when he was just 15.
