Manchester United will lose £10million a year in sponsorship revenue for every season they fail to reach the Champions League from 2025.

Mail Sport has discovered that a penalty clause has been included under the terms of the club’s renegotiated 10-year agreement with adidas.

That means United stand to lose up to £100m from the arrangement should the troubled giants consistently fail to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition.

The record-breaking kit deal — potentially worth £900m — will start in the 2025-26 season.

United’s current 10-year arrangement started in 2015 and is worth up to £750m.

It contains a Champions League clause that means a failure to play in it for two consecutive seasons reduces annual payments by £25m a year.

The club have missed out on the elite competition three times since the deal was signed.

It is understood the fresh adidas deal also contains bonus clauses worth up to £4.4m a year if the men’s or women’s teams win domestic or European silverware.
