Man Utd face fresh striker transfer nightmare as club chief confirms interest

Manchester United’s pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani has just gotten even more difficult as their search for a striker goes on.

The Red Devils are desperate to add attacking recruits to their squad this January amid ongoing goalscoring woes. PSG star Kolo Muani has emerged as a potential option for United after failing to earn opportunities in the French capital this term.

But a deal for his signature might be difficult. Premier League rivals Aston Villa have emerged as contenders for the Frenchman amid a potential swap deal for Jhon Duran.

And there could now even be more competition for the forward from Juventus. Director of the Italian club Cristiano Giuntoli has opened up on their reported interest, admitting their admiration but has remained tight-lipped on any move.

“The strategy is to reinforce the squad in defence and look around if there are any opportunities in other areas of the team,” Giuntoli told DAZN. “We must respect many different parameters, both economic and technical, and it is difficult to get great players in January, so we need to have patience.”

Asked specifically about Kolo Muani and another reported target Ronald Araujo, he replied: “These are two good players, but the transfer window is only just opening and we hope to get some positive news over the next week.

“Juve are always under the spotlight and every month feels decisive. We are aware that we started from scratch with a young squad, setting ourselves out onto a virtuous economic path, but trusting we can soon be competitive,” he added.

Kolo Muani moved to PSG from German side Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023. The French giants spent £67m on his signature but he has scored just 11 goals in 54 appearances in all competitions since then.

Ironically, Juventus have also been linked with a United star amid their attempts to add fresh faces to their attack. Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly under consideration after a difficult first half-season at Old Trafford.

He has scored just four goals this season after a big-money move from Bologna. Despite suggestions he could leave, boss Amorim has confirmed his desire to keep the Dutchman at the club.

Speaking after last week’s draw with Liverpool, he said: “I want to keep Josh because he gives everything and he’s trying in training but we don’t know.

“The window is open and we will see what happens. We just need to focus on training and to take this for the other games. It’s just one point so let’s focus on the performance for the next games."
